Field Operations has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Technologist to join a team of professionals based at BC Hydro's Edmonds Annex office in Burnaby, BC. This Technologist will be part of our Engineering team, comprising of 5 engineers providing support for the Non Integrated Areas (NIA) group. The NIA group is responsible for the generation and distribution of electrical power to isolated communities that are not connected to the grid. The group operates and maintains 14 diesel generating stations, one run of river hydro facility and the associated distribution systems. Majority of incumbents perform work within the office environment. Some incumbents may regularly be exposed to all weather conditions while working in the field. Some incumbents may regularly be exposed to hazards from operating, testing and/or construction equipment when at field sites. Some incumbents drive almost daily. To inspect construction work performed by City crews, private contractors and utility companies to establish conformance with City specifications and construction standards. The successful incumbent will have completed grade 12, with graduation from a technical institute, or equivalent combination of training and experience, in a related field, with specific training in Asphalt, Concrete, Soils and Municipal Inspection. Considerable related experience with materials laboratory and construction inspection work. Must demonstrate the ability to problem solve, identify creative solutions, and show leadership in new initiatives. The incumbent will have experience with handling nuclear densometers and knowledge of applicable CNSC and WorkSafe BC regulations. Proven ability to apply independent judgment to the acceptance or rejection of materials or construction work. The Finance Department is currently seeking a Draftsperson 1. The successful candidate will be responsible for related duties such as; identifying and quantifying changes to civic infrastructure assets with the use of existing civil design drawings, in accordance with the City's current Capital Asset policies. The successful candidate will also perform first level drafting, sketching, plotting, tracing and related work using standard drafting equipment, including AutoCAD. This position will also make elementary computations; perform clerical and statistical work and performs related work as required. The ideal candidate should have knowledge of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry; some knowledge of elementary survey and drafting and engineering practices. The candidate should also have the ability to make arithmetic calculations accurately; be able to understand and execute oral and written instructions and the ability to perform elementary drafting tasks.
