ABOUT THE SESSION
Breaking into social work practice in a new country comes with unique challenges — from understanding regulatory requirements to adapting your skills and experience to a new professional landscape. This one-hour group mentoring session offers a supportive and informative space to explore what it takes to become a registered social worker in Ontario and to thrive in practice once you get there.
Our mentor will draw on first-hand knowledge of the Ontario context to guide the conversation, with a focus on:
The licensing and registration process through the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
Common challenges internationally educated social workers face and how to navigate them
Practical tips for building your professional practice in Ontario
Opportunities for questions, shared experiences, and peer connection
This session would be especially valuable for:
Internationally educated social workers currently pursuing or planning to pursue registration in Ontario
Those navigating credential recognition, bridging programs, or field placement requirements
Anyone seeking practical guidance and mentorship from a registered professional in the field
