About the Role
Position Overview:
The Clinical Assistant will work under the direct supervision of a CPSA-licensed dermatologist, supporting clinical operations, patient care, and procedural assistance in both medical and cosmetic dermatology contexts. This role is well-suited to candidates currently pursuing family physician licensure in Canada, as well as internationally trained medical graduates (IMGs) seeking Canadian clinical experience while pursuing licensure or specialty pathways in Alberta. Candidates holding a dermatology diploma — whether Canadian or international — are especially encouraged to apply, as this background would be considered a significant advantage.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist the supervising physician with patient intake, history-taking, and preparation for procedures
• Provide pre- and post-procedure patient support and education
• Assist with procedural set-up and support during medical and cosmetic dermatology treatments, under direct supervision
• Support accurate and timely clinical documentation
• Maintain strict adherence to CPSA supervision and scope-of-practice guidelines at all times
• Collaborate with clinic staff to ensure smooth patient flow and high-quality care
Details
Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) or equivalent international medical degree
Open to candidates who have applied for family physician licensure in Canada, as well as IMGs at earlier stages of the licensure process
A dermatology diploma (Canadian or international) is considered a strong asset and will be given priority consideration
Not currently required to hold CPSA licensure, as this position operates under physician supervision; however, candidates must disclose current registration/licensure status and any prior CPSA assessments
Must comply with CPSA's supervision requirements for unlicensed or provisionally licensed international medical graduates working in clinical support roles — including scope-of-practice restrictions and direct physician oversight for all clinical tasks
Background or strong interest in dermatology (medical and/or cosmetic) preferred
Familiarity with common dermatologic procedures (biopsies, cryotherapy, injectables) an asset, though hands-on tasks will be performed within CPSA-permitted boundaries for the role
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to support patient care in a professional, team-based clinical environment
Attention to detail for clinical documentation and charting support
